MATERIALS 2 skeins of sock yarn Set of 5 #1 double point needles Recommended Yarns: Dyed Jems Sock Yarn
CUFF CO 64sts Row 1: *p1, k6, p1; rep from * to end Repeat Row 1 18 times
LEG Row 1: *p1, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, p1; rep from * to end Rows 2-4: *p1, k6, p1; rep from * to end Repeat these 4 rows for 5 inches.
HEEL FLAP Knit sts from needle 1 onto needle 4 (32 stitches on needle 4) Ignore stitches on Needles 2 & 3 Row 1: Sl 1 purlwise, *p6, k2; rep from * 2 more times, p6, k1 Row 2: Sl 1 knitwise, *k6, p2; rep from * 2 more times, k6, P1 Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 15 times Last Row: Repeat Row 1 (31rows total in heel)
TURN HEEL Right Side: Sl1 purlwise, k20, SSK, turn. Wrong Side: Sl 1 purlwise, p10, p2tog, turn. Right Side: Sl1 purlwise, k10, SSK, turn. Continue last 2 rows until there is not a gap. (12 stitches left on needle)
GUSSET K sts on needle 4. Row 1: Pick up and knit 17 sts from slipped sts on left side of heel flap. M1 between needles 1 & 2 and add to needle 1. (18 stitches on Needle 1) Knit across needles 2 & 3 in pattern. M1 between needle 3 and right heel flap and add to soon to be needle 4. Pick up and knit 17 sts from slipped sts on right side of heel flap. Knit half sts from needle 5 (old needle 4) onto new needle 4. Slip the rest of the sts from needle 5 onto needle 1. Row 2: Knit until 3 sts are left on needle 1, k2tog, p1, knit across needle 2 & 3 in pattern, p1 on needle 4, ssk, knit the rest of sts on needle 4. Row 3: Needle 1 - Knit until 1 stitch remains, p1, Needles 3 & 4 - Knit in pattern, Needle 4 - p1, knit to end. Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 16 sts once again on Needles 1 & 4.
FOOT Row 1: Needle 1 - Knit until 1 stitch remains, p1, Needles 3 & 4 - Knit in pattern, Needle 4 - p1, knit to end. Repeat row 1 until sock measures 2 inches less than the length of your foot.
ROUNDED TOE For Rows 1,2,3,5,6,8,9,11,13,15 knit all sts For Rows 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16 Needle 1: knit until 3 sts before end, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end of needle. Needle 3: Repeat Needle 1. Needle 4: Repeat Needle 2. After Row 16 Continue the decreasing row until there are 16 sts left. Knit stitches from needle 1 onto needle 4. Slip sts from needle 2 onto needle 3. Graft remaining sts together.
GRAFTING Holding the 2 needles parallel with wrong sides of fabric together, thread a blunt tapestry needle with yarn end and work as follows: Insert needle as if to purl into the first stitch on front piece. Insert needle as if to knit into the first stitch on the back piece. Then follow steps 1-4 as outlined below. 1) Insert it as if to knit through the first st on the front needle and let the st drop from the needle. 2) Insert the needle into the second st on the front needle as if to purl and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. 3) Insert the needle into the first st on the back needle as if to purl and let it drop from the needle, then 4) insert it as if to knit through the second st on the back needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. Repeat 1-4 until all sts are gone. When finished, adjust tension as necessary. Weave in ends.
