(My husband squeezes his feet into mine and stretches them out)
1 skein of Brown Sheep Worsted Weight Yarn or 1 skein of Cascade 220
Set of 5 #10.5 double point needles
CO 44 sts onto 4 dp needles
Knit 11 rnds (12 rows total including CO row)
Knit sts from needle 1 onto needle 4 (22 stitches on needle 4) Ignore stitches on Needles 2 & 3
Row 1: Sl 1 stich purlwise, p41
Row 2: *Sl 1 stich knitwise, k1* repeat until end of row
Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 11 times
Last Row: Repeat Row 1 (23 rows total in heel)
K13, ssk, k1, turn.
Wrong Side: Sl 1 purlwise, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
Right Side: Sl 1 purlwise, k6, ssk, k1, turn.
Next Row: Sl 1 purlwise, knit or purl to 1 stich before the gap, SSK or p2tog closing gap, k1or p1, turn. (choice is given for a right or wrong side row)
Continue this last row until there is not a gap.
K sts on needle 4.
Row 1: Pick up and knit 13 sts from slipped stiches on left side of heel flap. M1 between needles 1 & 2 and add to needle 1. Knit across needles 2 & 3. M1 between needle 3 and right heel flap and add to soon to be needle 4. Pick up and knit 13 sts from slipped stiches on right side of heel flap. Knit 7 stiches from needle 5 (old needle 4) onto new needle 4. Slip the rest of the stiches from needle 5 onto needle 1.
Row 2: Knit until 3 stiches are left on needle 1, k2tog, k1, knit across needle 2 & 3, k1 on needle 4, ssk, knit the rest of stiches on needle 4.
Row 3: Knit all stiches
Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 11 stiches once again on Needles 1 & 4.
Knit 12 rnds (Cascade 220 knit 14 rnds) (For longer or shorter foot knit more or less rnds.)
For Rows 2,3,5,6,8,10,12 knit all stiches
For Rows 1, 4, 7, 9, 11, 13 Needle 1: knit until 3 stiches before end, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: k1, ssk, knit to end of needle. Needle 3: Repeat Needle 1. Needle 4: Repeat Needle 2.
After Row 13 Continue the decreasing row until there are 16 stiches left. Knit stitches from needle 1 onto needle 4. Slip stiches from needle 2 onto needle 3. Graft remaining stiches together.
Holding the 2 needles parallel with wrong sides of fabric together, thread a blunt tapestry needle with yarn end and work as follows: Insert needle as if to purl into the first stitch on front piece. Insert needle as if to knit into the first stitch on the back piece. Then follow steps 1-4 as outlined below. 1) Insert it as if to knit through the first st on the front needle and let the st drop from the needle. 2) Insert the needle into the second st on the front needle as if to purl and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. 3) Insert the needle into the first st on the back needle as if to purl and let it drop from the needle, then 4) insert it as if to knit through the second st on the back needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the st on the needle. Repeat 1-4 until all sts are gone. When finished, adjust tension as necessary. Weave in ends.
Wash slippers in hot water in washing machine with yucky jeans (they may pick up dye color).
